Being precinctive and unable to thrive in captivity, the Vaquita is the rarest animal in the ocean. The Vaquita means “little cow” in spanish, and while having the mexican shorelines as their habitat, they have adapted to the warm environment with their proportionally large dorsal fins. Vaquitas are recognized by the black rings around their eyes and black patches on the lips. The dorsal surface is dark gray, but turns slightly more gradient going south. The diet contains squid and fish with the occasional crustacean when opportunity arises. The biggest enemies to Vaquitas are gillnets. Gillnets intended for the totoaba, catch the Vaquitas, eventually drowning them.
