Mariana snailfish

Snailfish

The hydrostatic pressure in the Mariana trench is so great that even protein starts to destabilize. Uniquely for the Mariana snailfish, high levels of trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) counteracts this process, a chemical which stabilizes proteins. At the same time, this sub-species of snailfish also produces a high number of proteins to help transport substances within its body. Another feature to help the snailfish is the incomplete skull, helping balance the internal and external pressure. Unlike other snailfish, the Mariana snailfish has a dorsal aswell as anal fins. Being the only fish to reside in these depths automatically makes them the top predators. Because of the nature of the trenches, plenty of food is scattered throughout the deep. When carcases of other fish and crustacean subsides from the sea levels above, Mariana snailfish have an abundance of nutrients available. Since there is no competition for the food they lack functioning eyes, but who needs eyes when you cannot see shit.
